Heat pump grant 2026: what SEAI pays
SEAI figures, read on seai.ie on 12th October 2026.
SEAI pays up to €14,500 towards an air-to-water heat pump in a house built and occupied before 2021. Here is what makes up that figure, who can apply and how the grant is paid.
What the grant is made up of
SEAI pays the grant in three parts. You get the heat pump part with any heat pump system; the other two depend on what your installer's design needs and what comes out.

By type of home
The most SEAI pays for an air-to-water, ground source, exhaust air or water-to-water heat pump.
- House
- €14,500
- Detached, semi-detached or terraced
- Apartment
- €11,500
- Air-to-air heat pump
- €9,500
- Any home; it does not heat water
- Technical assessment
- €200
- Homes built before 2007
Who can apply
Homeowners living in the house, landlords, holiday home owners, companies, approved housing bodies and registered charities. The home needs an MPRN, and it must have been built and occupied before 2021.
Before any work starts
The grant has to be approved before the work starts. A heat pump needs a well-insulated house, so for homes built before 2007 SEAI asks for a technical assessment of the heat loss first, with €200 towards it. You do not need one if a valid BER shows a Heat Loss Indicator of 2.3 or lower. Homes built from 2007 on fill in a self-declaration form instead.
How the grant is paid
You get quotes from an SEAI-registered contractor, apply to SEAI, and wait for the grant offer. After the work you arrange a BER, send SEAI the evidence, and SEAI pays the grant to you or to your contractor. Or a One Stop Shop can run the whole upgrade and take the grant off the price at the start.

- Have the work done
- Arrange a BER after the work
- Send SEAI the evidence

Good to know
The grant never comes to more than the cost of the work. Replacing a heat pump that was not paid for by an SEAI grant gets up to €6,500 (€4,500 in an apartment), without the boiler scrappage or the radiator grant. SEAI applies the €2,000 boiler scrappage grant to heat pump applications already in progress, with nothing to do on your side.

Questions
SEAI pays up to €14,500 towards an air-to-water heat pump in a house built and occupied before 2021, including €2,000 for taking out an oil boiler. The grant has to be approved before any work starts, and the work has to be done by an SEAI-registered contractor.
A heat pump works best in a well-insulated house. For homes built before 2007, SEAI asks for a technical assessment of the heat loss before you apply, unless your BER already shows it is low enough.
Often they will. A heat pump runs the water cooler than an oil boiler, so some rooms need a bigger radiator to stay warm. We check each room before we give you a price.
